Drag Out The Love was born five years ago with one simple goal: to bring the 2SLGBTQ+ community of Southern Alberta and our allies together under one roof, where everyone is welcomed, celebrated, and free to be themselves. What once felt impossible has grown into an annual celebration of Pride, inclusion, and the transformative power of drag.

This year, we're thrilled to return to our newly renovated home, the Empress Theatre, for Drag Out The Love: Broadway, our biggest production yet!

Back by popular demand, Ikons: the Kiss Experience will rock Fort Macleod’s Empress Theatre once again. Since emigrating to Canada in 2002, Chris Ronald has been recognized as a highly skilled singer, storyteller and musician.  His fusion of folk, roots, and Americana music are steeped in his British background and poetic lyrics. One of these early works caught the attention of The Georgia Straight who praised Ronald’s songwriting and “beautifully clear tenor voice” and wondered “where his obvious talent has been hiding for so long.”  His sophomore album Timeline catapulted Ronald to a new level in his career with, among other accolades, a nomination for “Songwriter of the Year” at the Canadian Folk Music Awards. Ronald was then signed to esteemed Canadian folk label Borealis Records to release Fragments followed by Light & Dark. Both albums achieved top 10 on the The Folk Chart.

Nathan Smith is a fiddle player and singer based in Smiths Falls, Ontario, known for his powerful tenor vocal and a playful fiddling style informed by a decades-long journey through numerous genres and traditions including bluegrass, old-time, Québécois, and French fiddling. He is in nearly constant demand as a performer, educator, and session player, and he performs regularly with a number of touring ensembles including celebrated bluegrass and roots band The Barrel Boys and Canadian Folk Music Award-winning trad superband Vinta

Meadowlarks (2025) is a drama directed by Tasha Hubbard that follows four Cree siblings in their fifties who meet for the first time over a weekend in Banff after being separated during Canada's Sixties Scoop. Based on the documentary Birth of a Family, the film explores their emotional, often tense journey to reconcile, build a shared identity, and heal from the trauma of forced adoption.
